LAND crew at work!
LAND in the Community: A great opportunity to enhance or beautify our community through service and education. Student Service Learning hours provided for the older kids are a BONUS!
Part of our mission at LAND is to promote connection between the students and their community. There are personal benefits of pride and confidence in the students who contribute to making their community a better place. LAND fosters a sense of community through encouraging students to nurture their environment. We accomplish this by organizing river, park, and road clean ups. Through these activities the students see a visible difference that relates directly to their participation. LAND promotes “litter awareness” any chance we get!
Other past community activities have included planting flowers at local businesses and working with various Maryland park organizations planting ornamental grasses, bulbs and perennials.
Middle and high school students (many of them former LAND Club participants) often come to volunteer at the clubs and other activities with the younger students. The younger kids always get a lot out of working with the older students. Volunteering with LAND gives the students a chance to earn their Student Service Learning (SSL) hours needed for graduation.
